One of the outstanding buildings of the famous architectural ensemble of Bukhara is Abdulaziz-khan madrasah. It was built in 1651-1652 being the last large madrasah in Bukhara. Abdulaziz was a from the Bukhara Astarkhanid dynasty (1601-1747). The amazing work of the architects and artists proves the remarkable progress of medieval Central Asian architecture.
The Abdulaziz-khan Madrasah is often compared with Ulugh-Beg Madrasah, built under the reign of the Timurid dynasty. However, they are completely different structures of different periods.
The madrasah is built in a traditional style with two floors of hudjras around the courtyard, corner towers and cupola buildings on the central axis. The portal is distinguished for its height and rich exterior ornaments. The courtyard and the rooms have carved and tile mosaic, relief majolica, marble carvings, murals and gilding.
