Grigoriev Gorge or Chon-Ak-Suu is considered to be one of the most popular and picturesque places in Kyrgyzstan. The gorge is located on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, 60 km from the city of Cholpon Ata and 110 km from the city of Balykchy. It descends from the slope of the Kungei-Altau range near the village Grigoryevka.
Grigoryev gorge is one of the most famous sights of the Issyk-Kul. The sweet smell of the pine trees, the green mountain slopes, the sound of the mountain river and alpine lakes attract a lot of people visiting the area. It is known that the most beautiful spruces of Tien Shan grow here.
You can walk nearby or ride a horse to enjoy the surrounding nature. It is also possible to see half-wild yaks and go eagle-hunting.
In spring the slopes of the mountains of Grigoriev Gorge are covered with red mountain poppies, which are spread across the valley like a red carpet. The length of the valley is 35 km. The glacier water of crystal purity rushes along the bottom of the gorge. In the middle part of the valley, there are two snow peaks: Kum-Bel (4200m. ) and Eshenbulak (4647m).
