Kochkor

Kochkor is a small town situated in the Naryn region in northern Kyrgyzstan. Kochkor is the centre of Kochkor district. Formerly it was called Stoplyn and Kochkorka. The population here is around 9000 people who are mainly Kyrgyz. The town is almost 3-4 hours far from the capital city Bishkek.

The town doesn’t have many things to show, however, it serves as a good base for travelling to the lake Son-Kul or the jailoos (summer pastures) in the nearby area. As it serves a base for touristic excursions the infrastructure is relatively developed. It is situated on the main highway from China to Bishkek. It is also 45km northeast from the Balykchy near Issyk Kul lake. So you can also visit Issyk-Kul from here.

The beautiful mountain peaks are seen from the town, so you grab your camera and find some beautiful spots to capture. Or if you’re lucky to be there on Saturday, you can visit the famous animal bazaar of Kochkor. It is open on Saturday mornings.  It might be exotic and interesting for you or not- depending on your experience and interests.
