As a monarchist dictatorship, there are dozens of national symbols and the images of leaders around the country. One of such symbols is the monument to the president Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov opened on 25 May 2015.
21-meters high monument stands on a marble pedestal. The figure of the president is made of bronze and covered with 24-carate gold leaf. The President is pictured wearing traditional Turkmen clothing riding a horse and one hand pointing forward. The dove flying beside the president is pictured as the symbol of aspiration of peace.
The official name “Askadag binasy” is literally translated as “The Monument of the Patron”.
