Uchkuduk is a city in Uzbekistan situated in the middle of the Kyzyl Kum desert. It is in the north of the Navoiy region of Uzbekistan. The name of the city is translated as “three draw-wells”. The population of the city is about 28 thousand people (2011).

Since 1958 the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combinat (NMMC ) was being operated in this city under the Soviet rule. It was a closed secret area and was elevated to the status of the city only in 1978.

There is a famous song about the city by the Uzbek group “Yalla”. The title of the song is “Uchkuduk” and the repeating lines are:

Uchkuduk, three wells

Protect, protect us from the sun

You're a lifesaver in the desert, Uchkuduk.

After building the NMMC here there was also a decision to build 3 wells, which would provide water for drinking, washing and other technical needs. And this is where the name of the city comes from.
